1 Corinthians 2:13-15 (14) – ‘But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.’ (NKJV)
I once discussed with people who called the Bible a fairy-tale. For every explanation I gave, they had ready-made answers. These men and women were grounded in the Word, and the more I engaged, the further opposingly convincing their responses were. No wonder our Scripture today affirms that the spiritual things are foolishness to the carnal man. He cannot understand it.
There are personalities on our streets who can prove there is no Christ in a few seconds. In Acts 17:16-34, Apostle Paul experienced this in Athens, where he noticed that the citizens were ignorant as they worshipped an unknown god. Therefore, he mingled with them to preach the gospel. Paul discussed with diverse people, including the Epicureans and stoic philosophers (scholars). He went to Areopagus (strategic centre) and talked about God. In the end, some got converted while others rejected salvation (vs 32).
Beloved, when you have proclaimed the good news, some would instantly yield, and others may be resistant. However, persist and don’t give up on winning their souls for God (Proverbs 11:30-31). Besides, ensure that you know the Word, so you don’t get converted to the other side, instead (2 Timothy 2:15). Finally, pray for people who criticise the reality of Christ that they might have a personal encounter with God. By so doing, the name of the Lord shall be glorified.
PRAYER
Hymn: Faith of Our Fathers – Frederick W. Faber (1849)
1. Lord Jesus, open my eyes to a deeper revelation of You.
2. Father, save the ignorant and give them an encounter!
3. Father, arise for me lest Your name be mocked in my life and situation (mention)
4. Lord, silence every aggression of the wicked against me, family and the church.
