Luke 15:11-32 (24) – For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate. (NIV)
A young boy who knew how rich his father was, asked for his inheritance, and the father gave him his share. The lad immediately travelled far away and became a party animal; he never cared about anyone but lived flamboyantly. In a little while, he lavished everything he had and lost his friends who threw him out of their houses so that he lived on the streets. However, after some time, the boy realised that it was better to go home than to continue suffering. Looking sad, the boy returned with the thought that his Dad would disown him or make him a servant.
As seen in our Bible reading, the father, who had been praying to see his son was delighted when he saw him. Therefore, to celebrate his son’s arrival, the man ordered that the biggest cows be killed. The father here is God while we are the boy. The Lord loves us dearly, but sin is the destroyer that turns princes to slaves or how can we have mansions built for us in heaven and continue to live as destitute? No matter our wrongs, when we make a genuine return to God, He will receive us (1 John 1:8-10).
Beloved, are you battling with sin, addiction and self-condemnation? Whatever it is! Repent and don’t end the year in guilt. Jesus is knocking on your door and waiting to receive you (Revelation 3:20). Will you open your heart?
PRAYER
Hymn: Softly and Tenderly, Jesus Is Calling – Will L. Thompson (1880)
1. Lord Jesus, I repent and confess You as my Lord and Saviour. I will obey and serve You. Please, lead me in the best path!
2. Father, please cause me to be honoured, where others experienced shame and failure!
3. Every mouth, cursing me and the heart wishing for my downfall, receive disappointment.
